Today was Polly’s Birthday Eve (because our girls aren’t satisfied with one day of celebration, they also claim Birthday Eve and Birthday Boxing Day!) and they both woke up incredibly excited. Ok, maybe not quite as excited as they’d be if we’d been heading to the airport to fly to Disney which is what should have been happening today, but a close second.

Winnie has a surprise planned so Polly came into the kitchen and read her book to me whilst I started one of my least favourite jobs, cake decorating! Now, I know I could pay someone to make one, but because I made Polly’s first birthday cake I felt I had to make Winnie’s, and then because Polly’s birthday falls after Winnie’s in the calendar year I couldn’t not make hers, and so on and on until we reach Polly’s 9th birthday and the 16th cake in total I’ve sweated/ cried/ rocked in a corner over! Mum guilt is so real!

Anyway, none of us like fondant icing (well, except Winnie the sugar monster) so I made a chocolate cake filled and covered in Cadbury’s Dairy milk (a mere 700g of the stuff!) and then put the icing over the top for us to peel off at will, otherwise it wouldn’t get eaten. Also, the chocolate helps hold the crazy weight of the ridiculous number of figures the girls always request!

We’d just got to the stage of utter chaos when Winnie called Polly into the front room. It turns out that she’s organised her a Suite Life Birthday Eve day where she could meet the characters (she had a VIP pass!) It was very cute and Polly loved it, although I had to keep going in to take photos whilst simultaneously dealing with a sweating cake (it was like a sauna in our kitchen).
After they’d finished the Suite Life event the girls were getting fidgety. Steve was off today but had to keep nipping out so I was getting slightly fraught as more pieces kept dropping off characters (there may or may not have been a bit of dramatic crying at one point!) Luckily, Ernie (our Christmas elf) dropped a Birthday Eve present through the door so the girls were full of excitement when they opened it and found it was a Tiana Wii game they’d been eyeing up (that Ernie is an excellent gift giver). I thought I’d now get time to finish the cake in peace. Wrong! I forgot that neither of my children can actually aim the Wii remotes, so ended up running in and out to them.

I finally got the cake finished (by this point both me and the cake were a little on the sweaty side!) and as Polly didn’t want to see it ended up creating a classy looking screen around in with the fan blowing it dry!

The girls then went into the garden to make us beignets as a thank you!

Polly has requested pizza in bed with a movie for her special tea tonight so that’s the plan. I’m so glad I washed the bedding today!!
Have a lovely evening everyone. I’ll be eating my weight in Papa John’s whilst trying not to break down in tears about the fact that my baby will be halfway to grown up tomorrow! Time really does fly, but I’m so glad we really do make the most of every day ❤️
Looks like another wonderful day xxx
