Disney Summer 2023: Finally Slowing Down

I think the Halloween party and accompanying late night finally made us realise that we needed to slow down. We realised we hadn’t actually chosen to relax at a resort since one of our first days at The Grand Floridian, so decided to spend a morning by the pool with the intention of heading to Animal Kingdom later on. It was really hot again, so we didn’t last as long as we thought before we decided to head inside to get changed for the parks. The girls realised that it was time for a few of the bead activities they hadn’t done, so set off to do those with Steve while I packed a few bits away. They actually ended up doing activities at both Jambo and Kidani, which took longer than we thought but meant they only had two beads left to collect. As those sessions were taking place at Kidani a little later we changed the plan to finish their bead chains and decided on tea at Sanaa lounge as we love it there and it made sense if we were heading to Kidani anyway.

We had a drink and shared a bread service before the girls and I went to complete the final activiti which was followed by them reciting a promise whilst standing on one leg (cue a wobbly Polly) to get their final Mickey bead. They both love their memory bead chain and I’m so glad we finally got around to doing the activities as they were fun and really informative, and the people running them were all incredibly lovely.

We then finished off tea (the girls had kids meals and we had a lamb appetiser and the fish with roasted cauliflower dish to share, all of which were delicious although Polly nearly choked on a fish bone which really scared Winnie) and headed over to Port Orleans to say goodbye to my parents and grab a few beignets. Polly had a bit of tummy ache so a bath and early night with a hot water bottle finished the night off.

The following day we’d planned on a water park, but woke up to see possible storms on the forecast, and as both girls were craving real bacon, decided on brunch at Raglan Road instead. We got the bus and arrived for our 10am reservation that I made on the way. The food wasn’t cheap but was really good, and we were all very full afterwards.

My mum and dad popped over from French Quarter to say another goodbye, before we headed to Goofy’s candy for some bits for my nieces (the girls also managed to get another sherbet straw), Gideons for some cookies (we’d never been before so joined the virtual queue straight after breakfast to try them) and the Coca Cola shop for some lip balm Winnie had buyers regret over not buying last trip!

Amazingly a bus to the resort arrived just as we got to the bus stop and we got back just after lunch. We debated the pool, but the girls instead decided to chill in the room while Steve went for a run and I did some washing.

After a while we got ready and headed to Epcot with three objectives: to meet Donald (Winnie wanted to show him her toy), to watch Joey Fatone as he was playing Eat to the Beat tonight, and to tick a few more food and drink options off of our list. However, although it was cloudy it was still crazy hot and muggy, so we ended up eating very little as we were walking and instead opted for the loaded fries from Regal Eagle whilst we sat and waited for the concert to start.

The concert was such good fun. He’s a great showman and the girls loved that he sang Sweet Caroline. It was so good we debated staying to watch the next show, but the queues were so big already that we decided against it.

We walked to France and Polly asked if we could watch the Beauty and the Beast singalong which we’ve never done, but really enjoyed. We then grabbed an ice-cream, and headed back for the bus and a quick swim as it started to go dark.

Late nights seem to be evading us, but we will hopefully manage a couple before we head home
