Disney Summer 2023: Back in the Magic

As predicted, we didn’t make rope drop the following day, and arrived at the park around 8.30. However, as it was a Halloween party day it was really quiet. After Steve’s mandatory coffee shop we headed to Tomorrowland as Winnie wanted to try Space Mountain. On our way we were approached by two lovely cast members who told the girls they loved their outfits as Rapunzel and Flynn were their favourites, and gave them a Mickey Bar each, which the girls happily ate for breakfast.

We then rode Space Mountain before heading to the castle for a few photos and to watch Mickey’s Friendship Fare. As the show was about to start there was an announcement saying that due to unforeseen circumstances it wouldn’t be happening (we have a running joke that this always happens when we plan to watch it. If you ever see us there, just choose another time as we’re essentially cursed!), but as it was so hot we were actually quite grateful as the characters still came out, but we’re done and dusted quickly. Flynn saw Winnie and apparently started mocking Donald that she was dressed as him today (according to Winnie) which she thought was funny, but also felt bad for Donald, so decided she didn’t want Donald to see her again today in case it upset him!!

We managed to meet Rapunzel and Tiana and Ariel, and ride Mine Train, Little Mermaid and Haunted Mansion all before 11.40, at which point we decided to find a parade spot.

There’s very little shade for the 12pm parade but there is a section outside Liberty Tree where we usually stand. However, Winnie knew Flynn would be on the opposite side so we ended up in the baking heat.

We suggested just watching the start of the parade as it was too hot to stand there for any longer, and as Winnie didn’t want Donald to see her she agreed to the plan, so we waited for Flynn and Rapunzel to pass (Flynn told Winnie she’d got his nose right!) and then waited to give Wendy a mandatory hug before heading into Columbia Harbour House for a cool down and some shared lunch.

We then did Haunted Mansion (which produced the worst ride photo ever of Steve & I), Monsters Inc Laugh Floor and People Mover.

We also bought a Halloween special drink (some sort of salted. Aramark drink with apple cream and an Apple fritter that was the sickliest thing I’ve ever tasted) before deciding to head back to the hotel.

Just as we got out of our sweaty clothes Jade messaged to say they were in the pool, so the girls got ready faster than ever to go and play with Arlo, and the grown ups all had another lovely chat.We stayed in the pool for a good while before the girls decided to start the bead activities they have at the resort. They chose one where they had to match famous African landmarks to their location on a map, and really enjoyed learning about them from the wonderful African cast members.

It was around 6.30pm by this time and we decided to gran a quick service tea and get an early night as we definitely felt the after effects of a busy cruise with limited sleep today. Tomorrow we’re heading to a park with my parents for the first time in forever, and the girls are so excited!
