Today was Winnie’s half-birthday (she’s always at school on her actual birthday so we give her a Disney day of her choosing on her half birthday instead) and we had our rhino experience booked at Animal Kingdom so we got up early and headed to the park for its 7.30am opening. We managed to do Flight of Passage, Navi River, the safari and meet Mickey & Minnie and Chip & Dale before checking in for the rhino experience at 11am.

Now I know it’s August in Florida, but even taking that into account today was crazy hot, so much so that there was an extreme heat warning, so we were prepared with fans and water to face the heat at the rhino barn. Luckily, the spot we stood in was fairly shaded. We all really enjoyed learning about the rhinos, and getting to feed one, and I would definitely recommend the experience especially as all profits go towards the Disney conservation fund.

After the encounter we were all suitably boiling, so decided to cool down in Nomad lounge which is one of my absolute favourite places to eat in the whole of Disney. The girls had steak skewers and Mac cheese, I had the chicken Manchurian bowl and Steve had a chilli pork dish, all of which were delicious. We then had churros to share for dessert.

By this time we’d cooled down to a regular human temperature, so decided to head to Dinoland to meet Daisy and Donald. We headed for Daisy first, who had a bit of a queue, but it soon went down.

She spent a good while with the girls, taking photos before pretending to walk off and leave them to do the meet, before she took their hands and ran off through Dinoland to find Donald. I tell you what, for a duck that girl is fast!! The poor photopass photographer was trying to chase her and take photos, all in the baking heat!! She got to Donald just before he went inside for his break, and they both walked with the girls before giving them lots of hugs.

They were about to say goodbye when Chip & Dale came out behind Donald. Now apparently, Donald didn’t invite them to his Dino bash so they dress up as dinosaurs so he won’t realise it’s them and get mad. But they were too close this time and he spotted them. There were some angry glares and poor Daisy had to break up a potential fight! It was very funny!

After all the excitement the girls got a few more hugs before their favourite ducks had to say goodbye. We had considered doing a few more rides but it was just so hot that we decided to head back to the hotel and decide what to do then. Amazingly a bus was waiting as we got to the bus stop, and even though we had to stand we really didn’t care because it was cool! We got back up the room, took everything off to wash at it was very grim, and the girls started watching HSMTMTS season 4 as they’ve been so excited about it, while we organised the cases for the cruise so that we can take as little as possible and leave the rest to be transferred to Animal Kingdom Lodge by bell services. We did intend on maybe going out later, but it never happened, and we ended up with room service and Polly’s 3rd meal of French onion soup this trip! We did manage to go out of the door at the end of the corridor in our pyjamas to watch Happily Ever After from the outside steps though, which was perfect.
