2022 New Years Trip Day 10: Epcot, Pool Time and More Steak!

Today we planned on a few hours at Epcot to finish everything we wanted to do off, before heading to the pool for a few hours then finally watching Fantasmic, but as usual things didn’t quite go to plan!

We did rope drop Epcot after getting a Guardians virtual queue spot (it’s easy to rope drop when you can walk there!) and headed straight for Spaceship Earth while Steve did his usual Starbucks rope-drop run. We then did Nemo as it had no queue and we knew our group was close to being called. As soon as we got off we headed towards Guardians and our group was called just as we got there. The girls have ridden in 3 times now but still get worried about feeling sick even though we always take sickness tablets. They absolutely loved it though, even holding their hands up once they realised they were ok, and have promised they won’t worry next time we come. I’ll believe it when I see it!

Next we headed to meet Donald in Mexico before going to watch The Voices of Liberty. The girls loved their Christmas show so wanted to see the regular show, and it was fabulous. Their rendition of The National Anthem was so beautiful. Afterwards, three of the ladies came and chatted to the girls and asked to have a photo with them, which they loved. We then went into The American Adventure (one of Polly’s favourites) whilst Steve had a beer in the sunshine.

Our original Fairy Godmother who first met the girls when Winnie was 4 and last saw them in 2019 before she moved away was in the park with her sister, so we had a lovely reunion with them which made the girls’ day. She’s such a big part of their Disney lives and we were all so happy we got to see her.

Afterwards we headed to Soarin and Figment before setting off back to the hotel as it was 2pm and we hadn’t eaten! We stopped to meet Daisy which took ages as she went for a break, but finally got back to the hotel around 3, where we decided to chill by the pool for an hour.

I really love the location of the Yacht & Beach club but the quick service food is so poor. It was even worse today as the fryers had broken at the pool bar, so they were dishing out the meals with packets of crisps instead, but they’d run out of those when we got there so were just giving out the main item with no side but charging full price! We decided to get a sandwich from the marketplace instead but there were very few options there as well. I don’t think I could do a long stay here because of the quick service issues. We don’t eat there a lot, but the inconvenience of not being able to when you’re in a rush or really need food is a big negative.

Anyway, after half a sandwich (Steve decided we could share! Does he even know me?!) and a bit more pool time the sun dropped and it turned quite cool so we headed to the room to change for Hollywood Studios. Except, 5k post-race legs and general exhaustion from a very busy trip meant that none of us were really feeling it, so we decided to try and switch our plans with tomorrow night and see if a Yachtsman Steakhouse reservation was available. There was one in an hour (I think every meal we’ve actually done has been booked while we’ve been here!) so we got ready and headed down. We were about 30 minutes early but they sat us straight away, and we had a lovely meal, with Steve enjoying another dessert martini!

We then headed back to the room for a supposed early night watching a movie, but at 9 the girls were still awake and decided to head onto the Boardwalk to watch the Harmonious fireworks. You can’t really hear the music fully or get a good feel of the show from there, but it was still lovely.

Tomorrow is our last full day and we’re hoping for a full day at Magic Kingdom, if the bus can navigate the half marathon road closures!
