2022 New Years Trip Day 8: Move to Yacht Club, Cape May Breakfast, RunDisney Expo, Epcot and Night Swimming

Today we were up early (big shock!) to finish packing and move over to the Yacht Club. It’s become kind of a tradition to stay there whilst doing the race weekend, and although moving part way through the trip isn’t ideal, it wasn’t too stressful. I had made a 9.30am reservation at Cape May cafe, and surprised the girls with Donald & Daisy outfits, so they got ready while we finished sorting the cases. We got an Uber XL and took the cases with us as although the hotel would have transferred them, we have had bad experiences waiting all day for luggage to arrive, so thought it was easier this way.

We checked in online and dropped our bags with bell services much earlier than expected, so went to see if we could bring our breakfast reservation forwards which wasn’t a problem at all. As we walked in the CMs were all really excited about the girls’ outfits (apparently nobody has ever dressed as the Cape May ducks before) and before we even sat down Donald and Daisy earn over and spent absolutely ages with the girls. We have had so many wonderful character encounters this trip, but I think this was the highlight. Winnie’s little happy face just melted my heart.

The other characters were also fabulous when they came to the table. I have always enjoyed the food/ character interaction here in the past and it was no different this time. And the salted caramel bread and cold custard cream on the table was absolutely amazing.

Donald came around to the table again just before we left and took the girls to dance with him. He then said he was taking them with him and was going to spend the day swimming and playing with them. I actually think he’s probably the only person Winnie would let us leave her with!

After breakfast we decided to head straight to the Expo to pick up our 5k race bibs. We just missed the bus so grabbed an Uber instead as we didn’t want to wait around all day. The crowds at the Expo were huge and we had to queue for a good while to get our bibs, but it’s always a great atmosphere and the girls enjoyed being there (although not so much the pushy sales people!!)

We didn’t bother getting a virtual pass to the merch section as we would only have bought a pin anyway, so once we had our bibs and t shirts we headed back on a bus that was waiting when we arrived at the stop. We’d had a notification to say our room was ready so grabbed our luggage and headed up. The room overlooks the quiet pool and is really close to one of the exits onto the Boardwalk which suits us perfectly. We unpacked the things we knew we’d need for the rest of our stay and headed to the pool for an hour.

The girls were starting to get hungry so we decided to head for Epcot to get fish and chips with the plan of then heading to Hollywood Studios to watch Fantasmic. We also grabbed a crepe and an ice cream from France before leaving. As we were walking round the Boardwalk the girls saw the Photo Booth and asked to go in. It was $7 for 3 strips of photos (which also show on your photo pass for free) which would have been reasonable if the machine hadn’t eaten $5 extra!! They loved it though and Polly can’t wait to put them inside her locker at school.

We were all getting tired, and with a 2.30am get up tomorrow the girls decided they’d rather have a night swim tonight as it’s due to cool down quite a bit, so that’s what we did. They had a lovely time in Stormalong Bay, riding the lazy river and slide with only a handful of other people.

And now it’s time to try and get an early night ready for the 5k tomorrow. I’m just glad that they’ve asked to stop for all the characters this time as I think a gentle jog between them is about all I’m capable of right now!
