Day 13: Magic Kingdom and Final Night at AKL

After waking at a fairy normal time yesterday, the after-effects of the Halloween Party hit today, and the girls stayed asleep until around 9.30. I assumed they’d want a pool morning, but Winnie really wanted to go to Magic Kingdom to do Frontierland (minus Big Thunder which they don’t like). We got ready in record time. The bus wasn’t due for 20 minutes, so Steve grabbed himself a coffee and the girls a muffin and we set off for the bus stop. The bus actually arrived much later than it said (I think it maybe filled up at Kidani where it stops first, and they had to send a new one as ours arrived empty) but it wasn’t too long a wait. We chatted to a German family on the way in. Their little girl was lying with her head on her dad’s knee, and they were talking about how exhausting the trip is. As they got off the bus, she promptly threw up everywhere, so I’m guessing their day was cut very short. It is so hot here at this time of year, and it can be so tempting to try and fit everything in, but in this heat with small people it just isn’t possible.

We headed straight towards Frontierland with a stop at Swiss Family Tree House on the way (the girls went in alone as I’m trying to give them a bit of independence…I then spent the 5 minutes it took them to get to the only possible exit thinking of every way they may have mysteriously vanished/ been taken during that time!) and spoke to two lovely ladies who followed the blog.

Next stop was Country Bear Jamboree. I’m the only one who’s ever done this and that was many years ago, but after watching the Encanto version of it (if you haven’t seen it do a search…it’s brilliant!) they wanted to. I think Big Al disturbed them slightly, but it was brilliant! The faces they made during the show were hilarious. I mean, who doesn’t love a show about drinking, trying to pull a man and blood pools? It just screams Disney!!

Next, we decided to do Splash Mountain as it was ridiculously hot. The park was really quiet as it closed early for an event, so queues were manageable. Polly was nervous even though she’s ridden before (albeit 3 years ago) but Winnie said she’s hold her hand and they both loved it.

We then caught the start of the parade (it was too hot to watch it all as there was no shade where we were) before heading over to Tom Sawyer Island (another thing we’ve never done). The girls really loved exploring, but we were sweating buckets and it is definitely somewhere that would benefit from cooler temperatures, especially as the little cafe wasn’t open.

We caught the raft back and made the decision that the weather was just too much. Polly had come up with a detailed plan for eating around the world again, but we decided that could wait until another day as we just needed to cool down.

We went straight to the pool which was good as it closed an hour later due storms and stayed closed on and off for most of the afternoon. We went to the room to pack for our move to Port Orleans which took longer than it could have as I tried to organise the cases for each of the next hotels to save a full unpack each time, but we got there in the end. Winnie really wanted to do Jiko again and as we had no other plans and have hardly eaten any actual meals this trip, we decided to go with that. It was as lovely last time, and we had a great night.

Back to the room to sort a few last bits out whilst the girls watched a few of the Launchpad episodes on Disney+ which they loved (they’re really good and explore lots of issues people face in today’s world).

Steve is off to the airport to drop the car off early in the morning, which is the only thing we couldn’t change after switching our cruise plans, but it’s not the end of the world. Hopefully he’ll find his way 🙈

We move to Port Orleans tomorrow and we’re going to go to Disney Springs for the first (and possibly only) time. Winnie is very excited!!
