This will likely be the shortest blog I’ve ever written as we literally stayed around the hotel all day today. We made the decision last night that we were going to cancel our Disney Wish cruise we were supposed to ge going on on Friday, as we have noticed a massive change in Winnie with her anxiety starting to make her want to avoid crowds and making her worry levels skyrocket. We chatted to the girls and ultimately decided as a family that if we took the cruise/ pre-testing/ possibility of catching Covid and ruining the rest of the trip away, things would be better. We weren’t sure if we’d be able to change things at such short notice, but after 2 hours on the phone Steve got things sorted. We then cancelled the transfer and found a new hotel to fill the 3-night gap, so we will be staying at POFQ for the first time which we’re very excited about. Someone asked me how I felt about missing out on the cruise, and it made me realise that I honestly hadn’t given it a second thought. Castaway Cay isn’t going anywhere and one day we may get to visit., but when you have a child with anxiety (or any illness), and see how crippling it can be, you just do whatever you can to help them. We will be together, and we’ll all be happy, and that’s all that matters.

Anyway, it was pretty much time for our Boma breakfast reservation by the time everything was sorted (although we still have to drop the car off at the airport at 8.30 on Friday then get back here as we were taking cruise line transport from the airport). I’ve said before that I’m not a huge breakfast fan, so I pretty much filled up on plantain and asparagus with a side of French toast bread pudding. The girls had the usual breakfast but with an excess of sliced ham, and Steve tried a bit of everything. I know people love this breakfast, and it does have some nice options, but for us I don’t think it was worth the money and isn’t somewhere we’ll rush back to. Today though, it was just what we needed. We planned to go to the pool for the rest of the day. The girls took their plane bags poolside which are full of notebooks, sticker books, sketch pads and reading books, and had a lovely time mixing playing in the pool with doing various activities. It was pretty toasty though and Winnie had been asking to go to Target for some flip flops, so after a while Steve said he’d take the girls and I could have an hour. It was heavenly and I managed to finish my book. When they got back the girls were very giggly and when I asked why they said to ask Steve. Turns out they wrapped him round their little finger and managed to get an ILY doll and an outfit each. Luckily, it wasn’t the huge toys ge sent me a photo of, but I’ve no idea how well fit them in the luggage!!

A bit more pool time and we headed up to the room to decide what to do for tea. Winnie didn’t feel great, so we decided on 2 flatbreads and fries from The Mara to share. We really have hardly eaten any proper meals this trip, but it’s been so hot that we don’t feel like it.

As Winnie went to the bathroom, she looked in the mirror at her red face (she’s inherited my best intolerance) and declared ‘I look like Donald Trump after he’s been on the sunbed in his goggles!’It made me giggle, so she replied, ‘I’m here all week!’
And that was the end of our rest day that was more stressful to begin with that we’d have liked but ended with everyone happy and very excited about tomorrows Halloween party!
