The Pearsons Do Disney (Polly’s 11th Birthday Trip) Day 8: Epcot and Hollywood Studios

Today was our last early(ish) get-up of the trip to get the last few rides ticked off to Epcot. I was a wake early got us a boarding pass for Guardians, but there was no persuading the girls to go on it again, so we decided just to do Test Track, Soarin’, Figment and a few character meets and then head back for a rest before hitting Hollywood Studios later.

We were slightly later than planned as we lost Bing Bong’s flower badge but had planned to drive anyway so it wasn’t too disastrous.

We managed to do Test Track, Soarin and the short film festival pretty quickly. Steve headed for Starbucks whilst the girls and o went to queue for some character meets, but the lines were non-existent for them (and massive for Starbucks), so we ended up meeting Joy, Mickey, and Pooh before he’d got his drink!

It was baking hot and there was nothing else we desperately wanted to do/ redo, so we decided to head back for a bit of pool time. The girls played some pool games while Steve had another Nana nap (documented by Winnie who got hold of his phone 😂)

Around 3.30pm we’d had enough, so headed up to the room. We had initially planned to go to Hollywood Studios to ride Slinky in the dark, but the girls said they didn’t fancy that. Half an hour later after going through a million and one options, they decided they did actually want to do it after all, so we got ready and set off. We had no real plan for food, but as we got off the bus, I suggested using the Skyliner to go to Topolino’s and eat there. Polly was terrified of the Skyliner last time but said she really wanted to do that, so we hopped on.

We decided to try Bar Riva for a drink and a few shared bits to eat. Winnie ordered the kids cheeseburger, Polly the Brie in pastry and then we had some wings to share. All the food was lovely, and we would definitely come back, especially as Hollywood Studios food options are so limited. The only due side was that the open sides meant in wasn’t as cool as fully enclosed indoor spaces with AC, which would have been fine if we hadn’t eaten chilli (at least we now know that Polly has the same skin reaction as me to eating it, and that we can be bright red faces together!)

After tea it was still quite a way away from getting dark, so we decided to catch the Skyliner to Epcot and have a walk around The Boardwalk. The girls got an ice cream, and we briefly watched the entertainment, before heading for Hollywood Studios.

As we were walking the sky turned an ominous shade and the reality that Slinky Dog may not happen hit. We only just made it into the park before we got the notification that it was closed. We knew it was unlikely to happen, but Polly wanted to wait to check, so we did One Man’s Dream again. When it finished the CM informed us that although it was raining, as it was the last show of the night we had to leave (Steve was relieved as I don’t think he could have sat through it again!!) Luckily, it seemed we missed the worst of the rain, so stuck our trusty Walmart ponchos on. The CM told us there was no queue for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, so we ran the short distance and did that before leaving the park as it closed.

There was a bus waiting at the bus stop, and the girls fell asleep as soon as the lights went off, and only woke briefly to walk to the room (The Stoltman brothers wouldn’t be able to carry these two!) before drifting off again.

We had planned a lazy day tomorrow before our Starlight Safari booking, but the girls to go back to HS and do Tower of Terror & Rock and Rollercoaster for the first time, as well as everyone’s favourite, the Muppets.

Let’s see how that turns out!
