The Pearsons Do Disney (Polly’s 11th Birthday Trip): Day 7, Magic Kingdom, Resort Afternoon and Jiko Tea

Today, Steve had his Keys to the Kingdom tour so set off from the room around 7am. The girls woke up to say goodbye but went back to sleep until 9 after last night’s late night (well, late for them!!) I packed a few bits into cases and the girls had some cereal before we decided to head to Magic Kingdom for a few hours around 11.30 before meeting Steve. As it was the first Halloween party tonight the park was really quiet.

Honestly, if you’ve booked an MK park day on a party night, don’t worry about having to leave early. You’ll get so much done during the hours you are there. We walked on Haunted Mansion (the girls made me ride alone as they wanted some privacy!!) and Jungle Cruise and could have done a lot more but the girls didn’t want Steve to miss out (they only agreed to those two rides as they knew Steve had done them this morning on the tour).

They did decide to go on Flying Carpets on their own though as they said he wouldn’t like that. We also grabbed some lunch at Pecos Bill and watched a bit of Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire before Steve text to say he’d finished. It was really hot, so we decided to head to Laughing Floor, grab Winnie her coveted Coca Cola which was unavailable at every other park, and head back. We love Laughing Floor. It’s nice and cool and always makes us laugh. The girls got chosen to help with the jokes this time too which they loved.

We headed back to the resort and headed straight to the pool. We were there an hour before a storm in the area closed it. With no sign of reopening, we decided to book a table at Jiko (we’d cancelled our Snow-White tea as we were all disappointed with the food last trip and the girls said they’d prefer nice food to characters). We headed up for the mammoth task of persuading Winnie to shower and wash her hair and it was a good job we did as the pool stayed closed a good while. We’ve really noticed the weather change over the last few trips, and Steve said the guide on the Keys tour said the same. What used to be a brief 3pm shower now often lasts most of the day, and we’ve had a lot more cloud/ rain than sun. Mind you, it’s a blessing on park days as the heat is tough going.

We got to Jiko a bit early (the joys of just heading downstairs for tea) but were seated straight away and coincidentally given the sane server we had 3 years ago. We really love it here. It’s very pricey but genuinely some of the best food I’ve ever tasted. I have a minor nut allergy and our server spent ages going through everything with me to make sure I got what I’d like (I hate making a fuss and often don’t declare the allergy as I get so embarrassed being treated differently, but she was great about it).

The food was amazing, service perfect and the atmosphere was lovely. We all had such a nice evening and Steve, and I were so glad we got to eat something more than the girls’ quick service leftovers!

We also got a lovely message on Facebook from a family who had offered the girls their spot the night before.

The girls and I left Steve to sort the credit card out (PIN numbers cause so much hassle here!) and headed up to the room for an early night. Winnie and I went to the laundry room and left Polly alone in her request. When we got back, she’d bolted the door and declared that she didn’t know what to do when you’re on your own.

‘Do you talk to yourself? Sing to yourself? Watch TV? I just didn’t know so I did them all!!’

We were only gone 5 minutes! Who knows what she’s have done if we’d been gone longer? A full stage show for her toys perhaps?! Anyway, Winnie then decided to go for a night swim so her and Steve headed down to the pool whilst Polly and I had a little bit of time together.

Tomorrow is Epcot morning to do Test Track and meet a few characters, then possibly reattempt Slinky in the dark.

Oh, and if you have any questions about the tour, I’m sorry but I have no clue. Apparently, it’s like Fight club…you don’t talk about it!
