The Pearsons do Disney (Polly’s 11th Birthday Trip): Day 5, Topolino’s Breakfast, Pool Time & Epcot

I was slightly concerned that after their late night the girls (and Steve!!) may not wake up in time for our Topolino’s Terrace breakfast. However, with a limited amount of subtle banging in the bathroom, they were all up and ready to go. We really love Topolino’s. It’s a beautiful restaurant, tables are really spread out, character interaction is great and the food is so much better than most character meals.

You start with a basket of pastries and then get to choose your main. I know lots of people have said you can order more than one meal, but portions are huge and I hate waste, so we just order one thing but make substitutions. So, for example, Polly ordered steak but had it with poached egg and kids waffle dippers rather than the polenta it usually comes with. You also never feel rushed and the characters often come round more than once, which is nice if you have a husband who forgets to take the requested selfies the first time round!!

We finished up and were back at our hotel by 10, so decided to head to the pool. It was already baking, but we managed a couple of hours by continually dipping in the pool which was luckily not the temperature of a bath today, before deciding to head to Epcot. Polly managed to bump her head in a head-to-head collision with Winnie and scrape her knee resulting in what she’s calling a ‘Wi-Fi scrawk’ (you can take the girls out of Derbyshire…) but they had fun playing.

We had a Space 220 lounge reservation and Polly really wanted the fish and chips she missed in her birthday eve so we got ready (slightly slower than expected as the girls realised Season 3 of Bluey was on and stuck it on the iPad!) and set off. We were even feeling confident we may be able to stay up late enough to watch the fireworks (oh, how foolish we were!) We opted for the bus as it was due just as we were ready to leave, and Steve managed to get a Nana nap in.

As we entered the park Spaceship Earth was practically a walk on, so we decided we’d just have time to do it before our reservation. The girls and I love this ride (and Steve loves being able to nap…again!) and we often have the wax melts that smell of it burning at home. It did stop at one point and Winnie said she was praying for it to start again as she really wanted to do Space 220, but restarted quickly enough.

We then headed to our Lounge reservation. Space 220 is really cool but I think there are so many places to snack/ eat around Epcot that we wouldn’t appreciate a big meal there, so prefer snacks and drinks. The cauliflower is my favourite but I always have a reaction to anything with pepper or chilli in it, so ended up with a red face all evening!

It was raining when we left the restaurant but not too bad, so we walked across to Soarin as again, there was very little queue. The plan was to then do Figment before setting off around the world, but Winnie’s droopy, tired eyes suggested we’d been fools to be thinking fireworks may have been on the cards (it was only 6pm!) We decided to split with the girls and I doing Figment and Steve setting off to get fish and chips for when they were done.

It worked perfectly (well, for us. Steve was melting in a puddle by the time he’d power walked there and back) and we then called it a day and set off back to the bus which was there waiting. We thought it must be our lucky day, especially when we were the only family on as it pulled off, but quickly realised that the driver was a little Maverick. Maybe he was just trying to give us the feeling of being on Test Track seeing as it was down, but it was definitely rather hair raising!
Luckily we got back unscathed and headed straight for the room. A quick bath, pyjamas on and a few Blueys in bed later and the girls were fast asleep.

Tomorrow we are going back to Typhoon Lagoon to do a few slides before a Hollywood Studios/ Epcot combo evening to hopefully ride Slinky in the dark and eat the food we missed today.
