Winnie’s Birthday Trip Part 9: Magic Kingdom, Resort Time and Whispering Canyon.

Our last full day seemed to come around so quickly. It was a wet and grey start to the day, but not cold, and as we knew that the weather was set to brighten up in the afternoon, we decided to head to Magic Kingdom to finish off the few things we’d not done yet before heading back to the resort to enjoy the last few hours of warmth before heading home tomorrow.

We headed across to the park on the boat (it’s a lovely way to get there but if you don’t fall lucky you can end up waiting as long as you would anywhere for a bus, and it isn’t the fastest journey, especially if you have to pause to let the ferryboat past!) and Steve went for his usual coffee. The girls and I planned to head to Peter Pan but the queue was already huge, and as nobody was that bothered, we went on the carousel instead. By this time Steve had met up with us so we headed to the girls’ favourite, Tomorrowland, land of the future (ironically the only place in the park where WIFI doesn’t work!!) to do Speedway. Queues were already huge everywhere, so we decided not to worry too much about the rides. We did go on Pirates of the Caribbean though and bumped into Jack Sparrow (or Jack ‘Sparagus as we call him as that’s what Winnie thought he was called!) We also met Tiana and Rapunzel as there was no queue, and the girls love Tiana (although they still didn’t speak).

We watched the first 50th cavalcade from outside Hall of Presidents. We did want to watch the new cavalcade but as it kept raining on and off, it was a rainy-day version instead. It was still good though and there were so many great, rare characters in it.

We decided to grab some lunch and head home. Winnie said she wanted to eat at Casey’s as one of her favourite memories was standing outside at one of the tables eating hotdogs, so that’s what we did. We then headed out of the park, stopping to see Mickey on the way.

Back at the hotel we got changed and headed to the quiet pool again. The girls grabbed a seat in the comfy, shaded seats and did a bit of reading and writing before heading into the water.

We had California Grill reservations for later, but it was so lovely and relaxing that we decided to cancel and stay at the hotel instead. The girls fancied giving Whispering Canyon another go (none of us loved it last time) so we booked in there instead. They wanted to toast marshmallows, so I made it a bit later to give them time to do that first.

It was Superbowl Sunday, so marshmallow toasting was free and themed for the occasion which made it even more exciting! We then got ready and headed to get changed for tea.For anyone that hasn’t been to Whispering Canyon, it’s inside the Wilderness Lodge lobby and famous for its serving staff who often engage with you in a loud, entertaining way. You can get individual all you can eat platters, as well as regular meals if you prefer. We had a server who clearly wasn’t playing the entertainment game (she was very stressed after having extra tables dumped on her) but the waitress serving the group of tables next to us was hilarious and made us laugh a lot. Steve and I chose different meat platters and the girls stuck with regular chicken strips and fries. The food was nice enough, but nothing particularly exciting, and I don’t think we’d choose to eat there unless we were staying in the hotel as there are a lot better restaurants both on and offsite. Still, we enjoyed it and even with the slower than normal service, were back in the room just in time to catch the top of the fireworks. The girls then settled into bed while I got as much packed as I could.

Tomorrow’s weather forecast is sunny but chilly, so the plan is to head back to MK for one final time before heading to the airport.
