Winnie’s Birthday Trip Part 8: Hollywood Studios and Disney Springs

Today we were back at Hollywood Studios for one last time. We decided to rope drop Slinky Dog and buy individual lightning lanes for Rise of the Resistance. Although we could probably have rope dropped Rise and then queued for Slinky, the ride had been going down quite a lot at the start of the day, so we decided this was a safer bet.

The queue for Slinky looks really long at rope drop (shortly after we arrived it was back to ‘One Man’s Dream’), but they don’t open the actual queue until close top park opening, so it is actually just one straight line that moves very quickly. We were off the ride 10 minutes after opening, so managed to get on Toy Story Mania with no queue as well.

We headed to Batuu for a look around. Polly decided that she would like a Ronto Wrap so we headed to get one. While we were sat eating the storm, troopers came out followed by Rey and Chewie. Rey was great with the girls, getting them to agree to help her with missions although she was worried, they’d not blend in too well, and Chewie was jealous of Winnie’s Animal hair colour.

It was just about time for our lightning lane for Rise of the Resistance, so we headed to the ride. We all love this ride. It’s a great mix of movement, theatrics, and thrills (albeit only a small drop). I definitely think it’s the most creative ride in the park (although Gringotts at Universal is a close second).

We left Batuu and headed straight to watch Muppets 3d. Again, the theatre was full, which is indicative of how crowded the parks were the whole time. It really didn’t affect us as we managed to get all the big-queue rides done over a variety of early morning extra (half) hours, but if you’re going at a supposedly quiet time, be prepared for it to be anything but!

We decided to head back and enjoy the sunshine as we had ticked everything off our list and caught a cavalcade and a Goofy meet on the way out which was a nice, unexpected surprise.

We had a good few hours around the pool before heading up to the room to get ready for an hour or two at Disney Springs.

Polly and I decided to head up first, but as we got to the building, we saw Pluto and Goofy were out waving at guests. A quick sprint back to get Winnie and both girls got to see them. We then realised that you could see them from our balcony too, so Steve shouted down to Goofy who spent ages interacting with the girls again. I really love the surprise meets. So much fun.

We hadn’t booked a meal at Disney Springs as after our disastrous visit at Christmas where it was so crammed you could hardly move, the girls were hesitant to even visit. However, when we got there, it was back to a normal crowd level.

Winnie wanted to go in World of Disney (of course!) so we did that first (then Winnie went back in with Steve whilst Polly and I waited outside! That girl can really shop!!)

I then checked the app for meal reservations, but there was nothing we fancied, and Polly had been craving fish and chips, so we headed to Cookes of Dublin. We forgot how big the portions were and ended up with 4 adult meals, which was way too much food, but we managed to polish off most of it.

We were quite early heading back, and debated going to a park for a few hours, but the lack of sleep from a few days back seemed to have caught up with us so we opted to head back to the room and have a snuggle on the bed eating churros popcorn and watching a movie instead.
