By 5.30am we decided there was little point even attempting to go back to sleep, so the girls jumped up to see if the Birthday Fairy had been. Amazingly, she had somehow sneaked in and left all the presents at the bottom of the bed for them (when I say ‘all’ the presents, what I actually mean is a few, select, fairly light and fairly small presents. The Birthday Fairy was clearly very conscious of the wight restrictions on luggage for the journey home!)

We spent a while watching Winnie open her presents, and Polly open the bits Winnie had gotten her (they are always most excited to see each other’s faces when they open the gifts they chose!) before deciding what to do for the rest of the day. We had got Be Our Guest booked for lunch, and the firework dessert party booked for the evening, but we were really concerned that nobody would be up to either eating or staying in the park all day after being so poorly, so Steve headed to reception to see what our options were. As always, they were really understanding and offered to cancel everything for a refund/ no charge for no-show there and then but suggested waiting to see how Winnie felt later but assured us that cancelling then wouldn’t be a problem. While he was at reception he bumped into Mickey, who had a cake made especially for Winnie, so he bought that back to the room for her (not that anyone was in a cake eating mood!!!)

We decided to head to Magic Kingdom (which was always the plan) and play it by ear. The monorail was really quiet which was nice, and both girls said they felt much better (although not well enough to eat.

Steve, on the other hand, was perfectly fine to grab his morning Starbucks so we grabbed a quick Photopass picture on Main Street while we were waiting.)

We decided that rides that threw you around probably weren’t the best idea, so decided just to focus on the things Winnie really wanted to do, which were:
- Get a silhouette made of her and Polly

- Ride the teacups

- Meet Mickey

- Watch the 50th Cavalcade

- Wave to Donald at the train station

So, that’s what we did, with a whole heap of ‘Happy Birthday’ wishes thrown in. Winnie literally never stopped smiling, and you could tell that she was feeling utter joy the whole time. Disney happiness is a whole new level of happiness, for sure.

We also managed to catch all the princesses on the train station, as well as a cavalcade with Gaston on it (although we almost didn’t see that one as a rude family tried to push us back off of our spot!)

The girls did start to get a bit hungry and managed to eat a Cheshire Cat Tail without incident, which was a relief all round.

However, they didn’t feel up to a big lunch, so we cancelled Be Our Guest and headed back to the hotel for some quiet time around the pool. It was actually the first sunny day since we’d been at the Polynesian, so it was lovely to sit around the pool without shivering. Steve and I had some pork nachos which were lovely, and the girls managed to nibble on some food.

After a good break they decided they wanted to go back to the park and do the dessert party. They both looked washed out but as it was Winnie’s birthday, we thought we’d go with it. Just as we were entering the park the flag lowering ceremony was starting and the girls asked to watch it. We’d never seen it before and it was actually quite emotional, and we all loved experiencing it.

The park was very busy, so we headed over to Carousel of Progress before deciding what to do next. However, both girls suddenly seemed to lose all their remaining energy. We made the decision to see if we could still cancel the dessert party, which there was no problem at all with once we’d explained the situation, and head back to the hotel.

Winnie had been desperately hunting for a Stitch Big Feet toy all holiday so decided to check in the Emporium one final time on the way out. While she was in there with Steve Donald & Co came out onto the train station, so Polly rushed to get her. They had a lovely, long interaction with him and Daisy, which was the perfect end to her birthday and seemed even more magical as it was going dark.

We got back to the hotel and once they were in their pyjamas the girls asked if we could go and watch the fireworks from the beach before bed, and as we left the room the girls discovered that the birthday fairy had decorated the door whilst they were inside, which was a big surprise!

We hadn’t eaten though, so decided to head to Trader Sam’s terrace for a small bite and then head to the beach. However, the view from the terrace was good enough for my two tired sweethearts, and so that’s where we stayed (listening to the soundtrack in echo with the slight delay from the beach!!) watching the most magical fireworks on earth with my magical people.

It was such a lovely ending to Winnie’s special day, and it made us forget about all the cancelled plans. She was so happy to have finally gotten her birthday trip, and so incredibly grateful. We really are so lucky to have her and Polly in our lives, and I count my blessings every day that we get to make such amazing memories together.
